GREAT and LITTLE WRATTING.
GREAT WRATTING is a parish, in Risbridge hundred and union, Haverhill county court district, rural deanery of Clare, Sudbury archdeaconry, and diocese of Ely, West Suffolk, 2 ½ miles north-east-by-north from Haverhill. The church is named St. Mary. The register commences in 1593. The living is a rectory, with that of Little Wratting annexed, the tithes of Great Wratting were commuted for £341, and those of Little Wratting for £275 per annum, in the gift of Francis Drake, F,sq., and held by the Rev. John Drake, B.A., of Trinity College, Cambridge. Lord Thurlow is lord of the manor, and Major Bird is chief landowner. The population in 1861 was 423, and the area is 1,329 acres.

Little Wratting is a parish, in the same Jurisdiction, adjoining Great Wratting, and 2 miles from Haverhill. The living is a rectory, annexed to Great Wratting. Here is a National school, erected in 1849. Tbe charities are 2 ½ acres of land for church repairs, and two tenements for poor persons, occupied rent free, who are placed by the church wardens and overseers. The soil is mixed. The crops are wheat, barley, beans, peas and roots. The population in 1861 was 193, and the area is 936 acres.
