IXWORTH THORPE (or THORPE-BY-IXWORTH) is a small village and parish, in Blackbourn hundred and rural deanery, Thingoe union, Bury St. Edmund's county court district, Sudbury archdeaconry, and diocese of Ely, West Suffolk, 5 miles north-west from Thurston station, a mile and a half north-west from Ixwortb, and 8 ½ miles from Bury St. Edmund's. The church of All Saints is a stone building, with steeple partly of wood, with 1 bell. The living is a donative, value £20, in the gift of Sir Frederick Lamb, Bart., who is impropriator and lord of the manor, and held by the Rev. George Ceesar Hawkins, B.A., Of Oriel College, Oxford, who resides at Honington. The population in 1861 was 139, and the area is 770 acres.
