KEDINGTON is a parish, in Risbridge hundred and union, Haverhill county court district, rural deanery of Clare, archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Ely, West Suffolk (a small portion is in Hinckford hundred, Essex), 5 miles west-north-west from Clare, and 2J east-north-east from Haverhill. The church of St. Peter and St. Paul, a neat structure, contains many ancient and handsome monuments. The living is a rectory, the tithes commuted at �701 18s., in the gift of, and held by, the Rev. Win. Henry Syer, B.A., of Jesus College, Cambridge. The workhouse of the Risbridge union is here. The union comprises the following places:�Barnardiston, Clare, Cowlinge, Denardiston (or Denston), Great Bradley, Great Thurlow, Great Wratting, Haverhill, Hundon, Kedington, Little Bradley, Little Thurlow, Little Wratting, Monks Risbridge, Poslingford, Stansfield, Stoke by Clare, Stradishall, Whixoe (or Wixoe), Wickhambrook, and Withersfield. Mr. Henry Purkis is chief landowner. The population in 1861 was 620, and the area is 2,342 acres; the soil is clay and loam, and the crops arc wheat, barley and roots.
BROCKLEY GREEN lies a mile east, and Great Wilseys a mile west.
