KERSEY is a village and parish, 2 � miles north-west from Hadleigh railway station, 9 from Lavenham, and 72 from London, in the Cosford hundred and union, Hadleigh county court district, rural deanery and archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Ely, west division of Suffolk. The church of St. Mary is an ancient structure, in the Norman style; it has a lofty tower and 6 bells. The living is a perpetual curacy, value �135, in the gift of King's College, Cambridge, and held by the Rev. Abraham Hume, M.A., who resides at Hadleigh. Here are the remains of an ancient priory. There are some small charities connected with this parish. The population in 1861 was 604, and the area is 1,510 acres.
