KESGRAVE is a parish and small village in Carlford hundred and rural
deanery, Woodbridge union and county court district, archdeaconry of Suffolk,
and diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk, 3 � miles east from Ipswich station, and 3
� south-west from Woodbridge. The church is a brick building, with tower. The
register dates from 1612. The living is a perpetual curacy, united with Foxhall
and Brightwell, value �120 yearly, in the gift of Sir John Shaw, Bart., and held
by the Rev. Woodthorpe Collett, M.A., of St. Catherine's College, Cambridge.
George Tomline, Esq., M.P., of Nacton, is lord of the manor and principal
landowner. The population in 1861 was 93, and the area is 1,610 acres.
