KETTLEBASTON is a village and small parish, in Cosford hundred and
union, Hadleigh county court district, rural deanery and archdeaconry of
Sudbury, and diocese of Ely, West Suffolk, 7 miles north-north-west from
Hadleigh station, and 2 north-west from Bildestone. The church of St. Mary is a
plain structure, in good repair, with a tower and 3 bells, and has one old
brass, and an old monument to Lady Jenny. The register commences in 1578. The
living is a rectory, value £405, in the gift of the Rev. Robert Fiske, and held
by the Rev. John Robert Fiske, M.A. Mrs. Beeehcroft is lady of the manor. The
annual value of the charities is £5. There is in the parish a neat National
school, built in 1838. The population in 1861 was 198, and the number of acres
is 1,063.
