KNETTISHALL is a parish, in Blackbourn hundred, Thetford union and
county court district, rural deanery of Blackbourn, archdeaconry of Sudbury, and
diocese of Ely, West Suffolk, 4 ½ miles south-by-west from East Harling, and 8
north-by-east from Ixworth. The church, consolidated with Riddlesworth, is named
All Saints. The living is a discharged rectory; has now a rent-charge of £120,
with about 27 acres ot glebe, awarded in lieu of tithes, in the gift of T.
Thornhill, Esq., and held by the Rev. William Darby, M.A., of Riddlesworth.
William Mathew, Esq., of Knettishall Hall, is the principal occupant, and farms
nearly the whole of the land in this parish. Thomas Thornhill Esq., is lord of
the manor. The population in 1861 was 84, and the area is 1,024 acres.
