This was a Lacon's pub. The last landlord (up to 1952) was Skipper-Lieutenant
R.S. Cooper DSC, RNR. with his wife Nancy, daughter Jane. Reggie Cooper was sunk
four times during the war, and was recovering from shell-shock.
His wife anticipated foodie trends by cooking plates of fine sausage rolls and
cheese straws.
A feature of the pub was a Georgian shove-penny board with real Georgian
pennies.
There was no cellar, the beer, in wood of course, was kept in the back room and
served straight from the barrel, no pumps; and they also ran the village
taxi service. *
