Leavenheath is a hamlet, formerly a chapelry, now a district
ecclesiastical parish, standing in four parishes, but principally in the parish
of Stoke-by-Nayland, in Babergh hundred, Sudbury union, rural deanery and
archdeaconry, and Ely diocese, West Suffolk, 4 � miles north-east from Bures
station. The church is a neat structure, having 1 bell. The date of register,
1863. The living is a perpetual curacy, value �136, in the gift of the vicar of
Stoke-by-Nayland, and held by the Rev Wilmot Guy, M.A., of St Peters College,
Cambridge. There are a few farmhouses and cottages, and there is a National
school. The population is 520.
