LINDSEY is a small village, and parish, 4 � miles north-west from Hadleigh station, and 6 � east from Lavenham in Cosford hundred and union, Hadleigh county court district, rural deanery and archdeaconry or Sudbury, and diocese of Ely, West Suffolk. The church of St. Peter is an ancient structure, in the Norman style. The living is a perpetual curacy, value �110, in the gift of King's College, Cambridge, now vacant. James Sparke, Esq., of Bury St. Edmund's, is lord of the manor. The annual value of the charities of this parish is 15s. Ravens Hall, an ancient mansion, is now a neat residence; on the estate there is an extensive manufactory for bricks, tiles, drain pipe etc. There is a small Baptist chapel. The population in 1861 was 316. The land is good in general, or which there is 1,246 acres, principally arable.
