Little Blakenham is a small village and parish in Bosmere and Claydon
union, Ipswich county court district, archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of
Norwich, East Suffolk, 4 miles north-west from Ipswich station. The church of St
Mary is a small neatly built edifice, with square tower. Date of register, 1728.
The living is a rectory, with glebe of 35 acres, and a yearly modus of £253,
awarded in lieu of tithes, in the gift of, and held by, the Rev. John Jackson,
M.A., of Pembroke College, Cambridge. Here are some extensive chalkpits and
limekilns, also clay pits. Lady Cullum is lady of the manor and chief landowner.
In 1861 the population was 146, and the area is 1,034 acres.
