LOUND is a parish and village, in the incorporation and hundred of Mutford and Lothingland, Lowestoft county court district, rural deanery of Lothingland, archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk, 6 ½ miles south-by-west from Yarmouth, and 5 north-west from Lowestoft. The church of St. John the Baptist is an ancient fabric, with round tower containing 3 bells: it has a nave and chancel, and a porch on the south side: it underwent a thorough repair in 1856, a new roof being added: there is a fine east window of Early Perpendicular character: between the north and south doors of the nave stands an octangular font, bearing in its sculptured panels the emblems of The Evangelists. The register dates from 1695. The living is a rectory, tithes commuted at £407 per annum, with residence, and 22 acres of glebe, in the gift of, and held by, the Rev. Charles Dowson. R. H. Reeve, Esq., is lord of the manor. A very neat school-room has been built, with residence annexed. Allotments to the poor are let for £30 per annum, and the amount is laid out in coals and distributed to them. The population in 1861 was 416, and the area is 1,264 acres.
