1873 - The Brewer’s Guardian, November 18th 1873:-

The ‘ Three Herrings ’ Inn, situate at the extreme north end of the town, a few years ago sold for £600. It has now been re-purchased by Messrs. Bullard and Sons, for the enormous figure of £1,700!
