MONEWDEN is a parish and village, in Loes hundred and rural deanery,
Plomesgate union, Framlingham and Saxmundham county court district, archdeaconry
of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk, II miles north-east from
Ipswich, 8 north-west from Woodbridge, and 6 from Debenham. The church of St.
Mary is a Gothic building, with square tower and 3 bells. The living is a
rectory, annual value £290, with residence, in the gift of Andrew Arcedeckne,
Esq., of Glevering Hall, and held by the Rev. Henry Browne Longe; the Rev.
Beaufby St. Pattrick, B.A., of Christ Church, Oxford, is curate. Charles Austin,
Esq., who is lord of the manor, and the Rev. George Thomas Turner are the chief
landowners. The population in 1801 was 223, and the area is 1,088 acres.
