MONK SOHAM is a parish and village, in Hoxne union, hundred, and rural deanery, county court district of Framlingham, Suffolk archdeaconry, and diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk, 15 miles north from Ipswich, and 4 north-east from Debenham. The church of St. Peter has a chancel and square tower, and will accommodate about 400 persons. The register commences from 1712. The living is a rectory, annual value £530, with residence and 90 acres of glebe, in the gilt of, and held by, the Rev. Robert Hindes Groome, M.A., of Caius College, Cambridge, and honorary canon of Norwich. There is a parish day school, erected in 1850. The land belongs to Lord Henniker, M.P., the Creasey, Randall, Garneys, and other families. W. Deane, Esq., is lord of the manor. There are charities to the amount of £80 per year, which are applied to the repairs of the church and tenements, for providing two shillings worth of bread every Sunday at the church, and in yearly distribution of coals and money amongst the poor. The population in 1861 was 442, and the area Is 1,509 acres.
