NAUGHTON is a small village and parish, in Cosford hundred and union,
Hadleigh county court district, rural deanery and archdeaconry of Sudbury,
diocese of Ely, West Suffolk, 5 miles north from Hadleigh, and 3 east from
Bildestone. The church of St. Marv is a plain structure, in the Norman style, in
a good state of preservation. The living Is a rectory, annual value £108, with
residence, in the gift of, and held by, the Rev. William Edge, M.A., of Emmanuel
College, Cambridge. Sir Robert Shafto Adair, Bart., lord of the manor. The
annual value of the charities is 20s. The population in 186I was 155, and the
extent of the parish 854 acres, the principal part being arable.
