Needham Market pub history index
Built by John Hatfield in 1544. Bought
by Peter Levell in 1620 and called Kings Head. Name probably changed after civil
war. Bought by Francis Theobald (Lord of Manor) in 1653 and presented to town to
help fund the Grammar school.
From 1830 the Swan Inn & Posting house offered staging between Ipswich & Bury St
Edmunds. A twice daily service was from then provided by the "Regulator". Bought
by Greene King in 1898 who sold it to Messrs Cobbold of Cliff Brewery in 1926.
Greene King bought pub again in 1990. *
