Needham Market pub history index
Earliest references is in 1742. In 1758 inn was owned by Samuel Alexander (banker & Quaker). In 1761 it was owned by his son, Dykes Alexander whose own son William sold the pub to Joshua Head (Ipswich brewer) in 1793. Sold to John Biddle (Woodbridge brewer) in 1817 and sold to William & Harriet Tydeman in 1829. Fire destroyed entire building and two adjoining cottages in 1840. Robert Bomann (Ipswich brewer) rebuilt inn. Colchester Brewery bought pub in 1898 and became Ind Coope after 1926. Pub was closed for two years from 1988 to 1990. *
