ONEHOUSE is a small parish of scattered houses, in Stow hundred, union, county court district, and rural deanery, .Suffolk archdeaconry, and Norwich diocese, West Suffolk, 2 miles west-by-north from Stowmarket station. The church of St. John is a small plain building of flint and brick: it consists of nave, chancel, and curious circular tower, in which is 1 bell: the chancel windows are filled with stained gloss: there is an ancient and curious stone font. The register dates from 1552. The living is a rectory, annual value £200, with 34 ½ acres of glebe and residence, In the gift of Robert John Pettiwanl, Esq., and held by the Rev. Thomas Massingberd Pyke, M.A., of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. There is a small village school. Stowmarket Union Workhouse is in this parish: it is a commodious building of red brick, occupying an elevated position between this village and Stowmarket. The principal landowners are Robert John Pettiward, Esq., of Finborough Hall, who is lord of the manor, and Capt. John Garnham. The soil is of a mixed kind, clay and loamy. The population in 1861 was 336, including the inmates of the union, and the area is 808 acres.
