SAXTEAD is a parish and village, in Hoxne union, hundred, and rural deanery, Framlingham and Saxmundham county court district, archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk, 3 miles north-west from Framlingham. The church is named All Saints. The living is a rectory, annexed to that of Framlingham, joint annual value £1,200, in the gift of the Master and Fellows of Pembroke College, Cambridge, and held by the Rev. George Attwood, M.A., who resides at Framlingham. The population in 1861 was 448. The parish contains an area of 1,202 acres, 22 perches, including the hamlet of SAXTEAD GREEN.
