SOUTH COVE is a parish and agricultural village, not far from the sea, in Blything hundred and union, county court district of Halesworth, East Suffolk, 3 ¾ miles north-by-west from Southwold. The church of St. Lawrence is an old building, with thatched roof, and square tower containing 1 bell. The register dates from the year 1722. The living is a vicarage, annual value £270, with residence, in the gift of Sir Edward S. Gooch, Bart., and held by the Rev Charles John Gooch; the curate is the Rev. William Robert Henry Brown. Sir E. S. Gooch, Bart., is lord of the manor. The charities amount to £12 3s. 4d. annually, which is expended in coals for the poor. There is a Sunday school. Here are clay pits. The area is 1,214 acres; population, 187.
