The following is taken from 'The Southwold Diary of James Maggs, 1818-1876'. *

The 'Crown', on January 6th 1819, Mr Henry Garrod took this Inn and continued 'till 16th January 1844 - when Mrs FRANCOIS from Cromer took it and continued it 'till the 17th day of April 1849

On 1844 May 29th 1844 The friends of Mr Joseph: Berry Edwards - of this Town (agent for Messrs Harvey Hudson, Bankers, Norwich) gave him a Dinner at the "Crown" Hotel, Mary FRANCOIS. *

17 Apr 1849 / Hotel de Paris, Cromer, Mary FRANCOIS Took "Crown" January 16 1844 and left. *

19 April 1849 / Assignment by Mary FRANCOIS to her creditors, Read Crisp and William Abbott.  *

Apr 17th 1849 , Mrs FRANCOIS fails in the "Crown Hotel" Mr Henry Garrod late Landlord, put in to conduct its business 'till May 24th when Mr Cracknell puts his Clerk Mr. Fisher into it - who continued in 'till 21 June - when Mr. Giles Austin took it. *

6.) June 21 Mr Giles Austin takes "Crown" Hotel late Mary FRANCOIS -see April 17 (leaves June 21 1850) vd June 21 1850 Westrup. *
