Nicholas Worsfold was my great grandfather and he used to live at Sims Cottage in Claygate. *

Nick was in the Royal Marines Light Infantry 1895 - 1899 and served in South Africa for two years, he missed the Boer War by a few months. In 1914 he joined the Army Service Corp and served in France from 1915 to 1916 and was shipped to Mesopotamia (Iraq) where he was mentioned in despatches in 1918. He finished the war as a Warrant officer Class II having started as a Corporal in 1915.

He was living in Addlestone in 1921 and as a barman at the railway inn, he was also a Fireman and attached to Esher and Dittons Fire Brigade (originally Claygate) but I'm now uncertain how he was still connected like that as he was awarded the ten years service medal and it is marked as for being with Esher and Dittons so evidently there is more to learn.

In 1921 census at 44 Spinney Hill, Addlestone, Chertsey are *
Nicholas Worsfold, Barman to J Napper, of the Railway Inn Addlestone, aged 47 years 3 months and born in East Horsley, Surrey Edith Emma Mary Bombainy, Daughter, aged 20 years and born in Claygate, Surrey
Dorothy Worsfold, Daughter, aged 13 years 7 months and born in Claygate
George Gale Worsfold, Son, aged 10 years 6 months and born in Claygate, Surrey

In 1921 census at the Railway Hotel Addlestone, Chertsey are
John H Napper, Publican, aged 44 years 9 months and born in Claygate, Surrey, the Employer
Letitia M Napper, Daughter, aged 2 years 9 months and born in Haverford West, South Wales
Lizzie M Napper, Aunt, Housekeeper, Widow, aged 49 years 8 months and born in Sussex
