Pictures are of Edward Messiter and Mary Norton, nurse and Mary as an elderly lady
Kindly provided by Wendy Strong
According to the Public Record office RG 12/575 County of Surrey at Dorking,
the head of the Star & Garter Hotel was Mary Norton and the Manager was
Edward Messiter. I believe they were married or were in a common-law
relationship and held these positions at the Star & Garter for more than ten
or fifteen years. I understand that Ms. Messiter nee Norton also performed
as a vocalist in the Pub. Ms. Norton was a nurse before marriage.. She lived
in Surrey until she died in 1946. *
