Castle Inn, Egham Hill, Egham, Surrey

Egham Pubs history index

Its days were numbered due to dwindling trade with both the recently rebuilt nearby hostelries, the Pack Horse and the Eclipse, attracting business away.
The Surrey County Licensing Authority heard that the Castle had only sold 89 barrels of beer during 1934 and as it was deemed not too convenient for the people of Egham was delicensed soon after. Last orders were called in September 1935 despite a petition signed by 56 customers. What a pity this great looking boozer doesn't exist today! *
