West Sussex Gazette 18 December 1952
Mr and Mrs Charles Bone, of 6 Ewhurst Green, celebrated their diamond wedding last Thursday. Mrs Bone made her own anniversary cake, and visitors included their son with his wife and two little daughters.
Mr Bone was for 20 years landlord of the Crown Inn, Ewhurst, and while he was in the Army during the 1914-18 war his wife managed the inn on her own.
Mr Bone also served in the South African War and has medals for his service in both campaigns. He also went in for boxing in his younger days and has a number of trophies for his successes in their direction, including a medal for the Army and Navy Championship (featherweight contest) in 1897.
In addition he has a cup awarded to him for three years in succession (1935-37) for the best flower and vegetable garden as judged at the Ewhurst show.
