In 1939, at the Star Hotel, 39 Church road, Mitcham, we have listed William C Kemp, a Licensed Victualler, born 22 Feb 1888 and married to Ada S Kemp, Unpaid Domestic Duties, born 06 Sep 1881.

My late Auntie Winnie (nee Winifred May Burn) and her husband, William Charles Kemp, used to run the Star. Their marriage certificate shows them both at The Star and the date of their marriage was 1 January 1942. Sadly Auntie Winnie died in my home town of Blackburn in 1960. I have no idea what happened to William (Bill I think he was known as), but he was considerably older and a widower when they married. My mother was younger than Auntie Winnie and used to tell me that Winnie was at one time a "hostess" in London! *
