My G G Grandfather,William Marsh 1825 - 1906 was listed on the 1871 census- Head: beer house keeper, The Fox under the Hill Spa road Norwood, Croydon. In 1881 he is still there,Head:sergeant of Metropolitan Police / beer house keeper. The area was a new town developed around the 1860s and the pub was built by a mister William Woods, who also built the cottages either side of the pub.
The roads name changed to Eagle Hill road at a later date. *
