My Father Harry Arthur Deacon was the last landlord of this Watney's pub
which closed because the brewery only wanted one pub in Walton; and they
chose to develop The Swan, by the river. He told me he had been there for 40
years, taking on the licence from his Father Henry Charles Deacon after his
return to work after the war. My Mother, Madge, would help in the bar most
evenings and the regular barmaid was Jane Manchip and our cleaner was a lady
called Nellie. Prior to that my grand-father had run a pub, The Parrot, I
think, in Sunbury-on-Thames. ***
