Tuesday 23 August 2022 - Stonegate Media:
The Crown, based on Knaphill’s High Street reopened last week following a £183,000 investment into the popular Surrey pub.
Receiving a complete transformation, the venue’s new look interior sees its seating areas refurbished giving a new lease of life to the pub with a new lighter and more open look and feel. The investment has also seen the pub’s outdoor area revamped with further seating added to allow more guests to enjoy the sunshine.
With great viewing facilities throughout all areas of the pub, there’s no better place in town to catch all of the best sporting action live with your friends and family, as The Crown enjoys the start of the new football season. Also entertaining guests will be the venue’s new pool table area, which has been added to create the perfect opportunity for a little healthy competition between friends.
Knaphill is a village in Greater London first recorded in 1225. There have been various spellings of the name from La Cnappe, Nap Hill, Naphill, and Knap Hill – finally settling on Knaphill. The earliest recording of the Crown dates back to the late 19th Century. It formed part of a boom of pubs opening in the “Old Woking” area where in 1914 there were seven pubs. By 2012 only two Remained, the Crown and the Anchor.
The Crown is open every day from 11am, making it the perfect venue to pop in and have a refreshing drink this summer. The bar stocks quality beers, wines, and spirits with well-known local, national, and international names. The drinks menu also features a good choice of interesting low and no-alcohol drinks too.
The pub is operated by Tainya Wainwright and Tony Petrillo. Tony is a real local hero having grown up in Knaphill, and Tainya, although not a local, has made herself well known to the Knaphill community. They have been part of the pub since 2019, getting to know many of the locals, and have a genuine passion for the pub and the community.
Speaking on the reopening, Tainya said: “Seeing how the pub has been transformed has been amazing, it’s such a great feeling to finally be able to welcome back our regulars to see our new look. It’s an exciting time for me and Tony as we look to bring the pub into 2022 with a new style but still with the same friendly and welcoming feel. We would love to invite you down to see the refurbishment for yourselves, we’re sure our visitors won’t be disappointed.”
The Crown, Knaphill is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards.
