My interest is in the Dumbrell family, who comes from Rottingdean in East Sussex. Elizabeth's husband, John DUMBRELL 1781-1830, was listed as a publican and victualler, Black Lion Street, from 1813-1822. John died 6 March 1830. In the 1851 census Elizabeth was described as living in Black Lion Street, but was a "proprietor of houses". In 1854 she made her will, and also gave Black Lion Street as her address but gave no profession. She died in 1856 *
