The Old Eight Bells Inn, at Buxted was sold by auction for £3,800 at Uckfield last Friday. The sale was conducted by St John Smith and Charles J Parris on behalf of MEssrs Page and Overton, Brewery Ltd.
It is believed that the game of darts was originally played at the Inn, using darts four times as long as thos of the present day.
The Old Eight Bells, now closed, has three bedrooms, bathroom, seven ground floor rooms which foremerly were bars and stockrooms, a living room a kitchen, together with a garden of about half an acre.
The adjoining paddock of over three acres was sold for £8,900 which represents a price of approximately £2380 per acre. Planning permission has been obtained for the building of 14 houses there.
