James Packham was a great great grandfather of mine. "His" pub was rebuilt and the end of the 19th, early in 20th century (this picture shows the
present building). In 1841 he is listed in Broad Street, Cuckfield as an agricultural labourer, there is no mention of the beerhouse, so presumably the origin of the Wheatsheaf was between 1841 and 1851. *
Abraham Packham, aged 9 in the 1851 census, was my great great grandfather which would make James my 3 x grandfather.
Abraham had Herbert Packham as one of his sons.
Herbert had son Thomas Edward, who in turn had Leslie Edward.
My father Leslie is 95. I intend to bring him for his 96th birthday to the pub and then on to the pub that Abraham went on to run in Brighton ; which is The Camelford Arms. *
