Owned as a farmhouse by William Murrell up until 1791. His son Joseph died in 1840, and the property was then passed to his daughter, Mary; and then to George Murrell. The opening of the Railway in 1864 offered the opportunity for a public house to be opened, i.e. the Railway Hotel. Robert Marshall was landlord here from 1866, and in 1871 at the census time.
