Bedford, 37 Queens Road, Hastings

This pub was established in around 1865. ** At 1 St Andrews Road in 1871 and 1881; Sadly, the Bedford (at various times the Bedford Arms and the Bedford Hotel) was destroyed by a direct hit from a high explosive bomb in October 1940 during World War Two. This is the building that replaced the pub, photographed on a rainy Wednesday in late 2009. It is now operating as a building society, but had previously been a carpet shop. ***
