Breeds Brewery, Courthouse Street, Hastings

Hastings pub history index

Breeds was one of several local breweries operating in Hastings and occupied a large site in Hastings old town off Courthouse Street. The Brewery had a beer house on each corner of its site. The nearby Duke of Wellington pub is the only one to survive, but this is now a fully licenced pub. The Diamond (sometimes called the Diamond Arms) in Bourne Walk was another. There is some confusion about the names of the other two, but they may have been called the Beehive and the New Found Out. I have no information about the other beer houses, but one of them may have become the Shipwright's Arms, however, this is by no means certain.  The August 2010 picture shows one of the remaining portions of the Breeds Brewery complex now in use for other purposes ***
