Duke of Cornwall Inn, Post Office Passage, Hastings

Hastings pub history index

Listed in Winding Street in 1858. The Duke of Cornwall became the Silver Dollar at some time after World War Two, but closed in the mid 1960s. The photo was taken from Winding Street looking towards the High Street. The pub was at Number 4. There is more history about the Pub here. ***

My parents Stan & Margery Hayward ran the pub from 1963 until it closed and was demolished, It stood in Post Office Passage at the end of Winding Street just to the right of the view in this photo, where the gate to the rear of the warden assisted flats now stands. It was a great little pub always busy at the week ends. They were listed in the 1966 telephone directory as "Hastings 1880" **
