Hastings pub history index
There has been a Hare and Hounds in Ore
since the 1770s and perhaps longer. It was originally a coaching inn and the
first theatre in the Hastings area was built next door. Both the pub and the
theatre was destroyed by
fire in 1867. A new Hare and Hounds was built shortly
after to a smaller scale slightly south of the original. At 385 Old London Road by 1938.
It closed in 2006. ***
The plaque was first installed in a public shelter and moved to a nearby wall when the shelter was demolished in the 1970s. It's about 50 yards to the North of the pub on the other side of Saxon Road.
