The Gratwicke Arms(1), was formerly the Eagle(2) / the Spread Eagle(3), at 11 East Street. *
The ‘Gratwicke Arms’ was built in 1896 on the site of
the ‘Spread Eagle’ which was a small thatched beer house. The ‘Gratwicke Arms’
not only took the site of the ‘Spread Eagle’ but also that of the adjacent
ground to be a larger premises altogether. **
