Lamb Inn, Littlehampton

Littlehampton pub history index

Listed in Melville’s 1858 Directory & Gazetteer of Sussex as in Littlehampton but no record found of it in any preceding or succeeding Census records nor in any other Trade Directories. Melville however also lists a Thomas Richardson Innkeeper and shoemaker at the Lamb Inn in Rustington: *

Directory of Pubs in the UK, historical public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in Littlehampton, Sussex . The Littlehampton, Sussex listing uses information from census, Trade Directories and History to add licensees, bar staff, Lodgers and Visitors.

The following entries are in this format:

Year/Publican or other Resident/Relationship to Head and or Occupation/Age/Where Born/Source.

1858 / Thomas Richardson / … / Melville’s Directory & Gazetteer of Sussex - Littlehampton *

1858 / Thomas Richardson /… / Mellville’s Directory & Gazetteer of Sussex – Rustington *

1861 Census: A Thomas Richardson is recorded living in Rustington with the occupation of Innkeeper & Cordwainer, no premises given but must be the above person. *

Clearly Melville’s Directory made a mistake with the Lamb Inn entry, listing it twice in different places. The Littlehampton entry was clearly wrong as proved by the 1861 census record. *
