No mention of it found in the 1881 or 1891 Censuses. No
licensed victuallers/innkeepers/beer retailers were found in these censuses that
cant be linked to one of the other known public houses in East Street. *
The 1896 1:2500 scale Ordnance Survey map of the area, (the nearest date large
scale map), does not indicate any other public houses in East Street other than
the Spread Eagle, the Spotted Cow and the Forresters Arms. However the
Wheatsheaf is not indicated and this is known to be operating as a pubic house
at the time. The Oddfellows Arms is also omitted but no evidence has been found
of it still operating as a public house at this time. *
It is likely therefore that if there was a Pig and Whistle active at this time
it was operating from the front room of a house, however the absence of an
unattributed licensed victualler/beer retailer seems to imply that it existed
for a short time only. *
Local residents knowledge recollects a Pig and Whistle public house but no
details of where or when it ran. *
