The building still exists and up to 2012 still retained some of the exterior signage on the side wall nearest the railway line as shown on contemporary photographs of it. The first floor has now been covered over with timber cladding, hiding the original form. It has been a private residence for some time, the date it ceased trading as a public house unknown. *

11 River Road, Littlehampton:
1895 / Arthur Stanford / Shoe Maker / Kelly’s Directory – no mention of selling
beer *
1899 as above *
1901 / Arthur Stanford / Beer shop keeper / 34 / Burpham, Sussex / Census *
These premises do not appear in either the 1891 or 1911 census returns. The road
numbering for River Road runs consecutively, i.e. 1-2-3-4-5-6, along its length
as the other side of the road was wharfs and warehousing, and appears in the
census returns in this manner. The records jump from 10 to 12 except in this
year. *
Number 11 appears to be a narrow building built alongside the rear of number 10,
accessed through the same front gate as number 10. *
