The White Horse is latterly renamed the Squire & Horse and still open. According to their website this was an 16th century public house named the White Horse. It is now a grade II listed building, apparently an 18th century inn, the latter is probably true.

It appears that the “Landlord” , as distinct from the Publican, from at
least 1832 till about 1856, was Harvey Trevatt of Pulborough. He was listed as
“gentry” or “annuitant/owner of houses” in directories and censuses during that
time. At the time of his death in 1856 there was a death notice in the Sussex
Advertiser that described Harvey as “formerly many years the landlord of The
White Horse Inn, Bury near Arundel, Sussex. ***
Harvey was the brother of my 3 x Great Grandfather John Trevatt who is
documented as the publican 1832 – 1844 and the Uncle of Mary Goodyer (nee
Trevatt) whose husband was documented as publican 1844 – 1851+ ***
Harvey Trevatt and his wife Hannah were childless and she was listed as “retired
victualer’s wife” in the 1861 census. She died alone in 1872 and only had
effects worth 200 pounds listed in probate. ***
John Trevatt’s son in law is Clement Goodyer. He married John’s daughter
Mary Trevatt on 30th Jun 1844 in Bury. Clement and Mary would be my 2xGreat
Grand Uncle and Aunt. ***
