at Tivoli in 1878 & earlier; The Tivoli Tavern in St Leonards was orginally located near the Silverhill junction and was first licensed in 1835 to William Edlin, the brother of H Edlin who ran St Leonard's Hotel which was constructed in 1828. This was renamed the (Edlin's) Royal Victoria Hotel after Princess Victoria's visit in 1834 and was in the second half of the 19th century a favourite watering hole of royalty, the rich and the famous. The original Tivoli Tavern was pulled down around 1860 and its licence transferred to this new premises at 133 Battle Road. **
