Brewers reject offer from developers.
The Bell Hotel, Uckfield is not to be demolished after all. A sopesman for the brewers who own it said that an offer from a property developer has been rejected.
Outline planning permission for the re-development of 94-100 High street - which includes The Bell - was granted in February.
Mr JOhn Jones, the area manager for the brewers, Bass Charrington, said at the time the brewery was disposing of the Bell because it wanted to co-operate with a shoppig development plan in that part of the town.
Since then trade in the hotel and surrounding shops has been hit by continued uncertainty.
The spokesman said on Wednesday that the hotel would stay open for the forseeable future, but he added that if another developer were to make s substantial offer the situation might change.
