Elizabeth Attree was the wife of George Attree from Cowfold. They were the publicans in 1860, I think. George died early 1860's and Elizabeth married my great great grandfather Charles Coleman in 1864. On my great grandmothers birth certificate Charles Coleman is listed as the publican. On the 1871 Census Charles Coleman is a Journeyman Miller, with a small daughter Clara Harriett Coleman - My great grandmother. By 1881 Clara is living with her uncle in Brede. To the best of my knowledge both her parents were dead then. *
Elizabeth Attree's first husband George Attree was a grandson of George Attree, the publican of The Ship Inn, in Cuckfield. Elizabeth is listed as a barmaid in the 1851 census at that pub. I think perhaps George senior helped them to get into the Plough Inn as publicans. *
