My husband's great great grandfather was the proprietor of the Wagon Load of
Lime. In the 1861 Census, he is listed as John Cheshire, and is living with
his wife Ann and daughter Emma. By 1871 he was an annuitant living with his
son in Witton Lane, West Bromwich. Before that he had been a farmer in Arley.
It looks like he was the innkeeper for nearly twenty years (before 1851 to
nearly 1871). No doubt decided that being a publican was a lot easier on the
back than a farmer as he probably moved into the pub before 1851 when he
would have been in his late forties, early fifties. *

Abraham Elson is interesting in that he marries Jane Train in 1863 (aged
24), at the time he is a farmer & widower (aged 33), by 1878, he remarries
to Rhoda Wilson, and again as a widower. They are both still alive in 1911.
