Friday 07 October 2022 - Stonegate Media:
The Old Windmill, Coventry was presented with the Stonegate Group Pub Partners Pub of the Year at the prestigious Great British Pub Awards 2022, having come out on top across the company’s 3000 leased and tenanted estate.
The award was judged across a number of factors, including, standards of service, staff training, food and drink on offer, how they market the business, their sustainability and accessibility.
The Old Windmill was awarded the title over competitors, due to the extraordinary creativity shown in introducing a high quality menu of artisan boards, despite not having access to a kitchen on site, as well as the range of music and charity events hosted at the pub and their great choice of draught beers and ciders.
Licensee Michelle Gilmour, has transformed the historic pub into a community haven supporting local charities, and food bank initiatives as well as personally taking part in fundraising stunts including abseiling down Coventry Cathedral to raise funds for the Myton Hospice.
The pub is a ‘must stop’ for local shoppers who pop in to sample the locally sourced ‘famous’ pork pies as well as the quality ploughman’s and cheese boards. Live music and beer festivals fill their busy events schedule throughout the year. More recently Michelle took to expanding the customer facilities to incorporate an evening and weekend beer garden having worked with the local architect’s firm IDP next door.
Michelle said: “I am so thrilled that we have won the award for Stonegate Group Pub Partners Pub of the Year at these prestigious awards. This means so much to me and the team. We pride ourselves on our amazing customer service and warm welcoming atmosphere, which makes customers feel relaxed and sees them continue to return. All our team work so hard, and this award recognises their amazing work, I would like to say thank you to them all, for everything they do.”
“I am so grateful to be part of Coventry’s oldest pub and the community surrounding it. I would like to also thank all our amazing customers for continually supporting us, we would not be here without you, this award is as much yours as it is ours. I am excited to see what this year brings for The Old Windmill.”
Nick Andrews, Managing Director of Stonegate Group Pub Partners, said: “We are delighted for Michelle and the team at The Old Windmill for picking up this prestigious award. It is a fantastic achievement for a pub that goes above and beyond to deliver an amazing experience to its guests. Within Stonegate Group Pub Partners our pubs are very much at the heart of their communities, and there is no better example of that than The Old Windmill.”
