Directory of Pubs in the UK, historical public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in Warwickshire. The Warwickshire listing uses information from census, Trade Directories and History to add licensees, bar staff, Lodgers and Visitors.

The following entries are in this format:

Year/Publican or other Resident/Relationship to Head and or Occupation/Age/Where Born/Source.

My Great Grandfather Joseph Holding was the Innkeeper of the Holly Bush from about 1901 (confirmed in 1901 census). He lived there with his wife Eliza (Slater), son Thomas, daughter Alice Maud (my Grandmother) and son Ernest. Joseph’s other son, Thomas Henry, died in a horrific accident in Kingsbury Colliery in 1905, he was virtually decapitated. The Coroner held the inquest at the Inn and this is confirmed by the Coroner’s and newspaper reports. Joseph died in Tamworth in 1914

I have anecdotal advice that Joseph Holding was also Innkeeper at the Saracen’s Head, Balsall. I suspect his tenure was brief.
