The New Inn, Monkton Deverill was where my Dad, Ernest Victor Jones held the License. There was a Smallholding with the property, and we had about a Dozen
or so Cows. The Pub was a roaring success during the War due to the fact
that in Kingston Deverill about two miles away, an American Army Camp was
established and they were of course the big spenders of the Day but when it
was all over and the Americans left, it became just another Country Pub and
was eventually closed in the 1950s. *
